MK-44-ABLC
The watchword for this adventure is weight: less than 50 grams for an automatic chronograph.
It took about ten years’ labor reworking Makrolon® to get the MK44 right! Like the engineers of a Formula 1 team designing a racecar down to a millimeter’s precision, B.R.M Chronographes has manufactured all of the components of this timepiece to within a hundredth of a gram, weighing them one by one on a scale precise to the micrometer. We have shaved weight from every part of this automatic watch’s case. To make it we have opted to use Makrolon®, a tough, lightweight material used in automotive racing.
We have stripped down the movement as well, manufacturing each part to diminish its weight, and reducing the mass of the rotor by more than half of the standard. The skeleton dial is entirely openwork, and the ultra-light hands are perforated. The push-buttons and crown are made of lightweight titanium, the screw-on lugs are machined to an extreme, and the screws are turned, countersunk, and lightened by B.R.M Chronographes.
Even the luxury watch’s strap, made of technical fabric, is of controlled thickness and sewn with extra-light thread to keep the weight down. Bit by tiny bit, our French factory has managed to create an ultra-lightweight automatic chronograph that weighs in at less than 50 grams.
